A sleep program is really simple. It's about you choosing to and actually getting your body into that bed early enough to make a difference in your health. I'm not saying it's going to be an easy change, but if you want to have better health then this for you.
Did you know that even if you DIDN'T set an alarm that you would still wake up when you had gotten enough sleep?
To stay up? Or, to fall asleep?
You really can choose to go to sleep at an hour that facilitates morning happiness. Go for it!
If you think about it- how is staying up late going to bring you better health? It isn't.
Ah, ha ha! Woman, you know your household is notorious for staying up through double digits every night!
Let's say it's 11 PM specifically, just to give bering here.
Here's the Sleep Program plan:
This is merely an example of what I did to make a bedtime adjustment:
Plan that 2 hours earlier than usual - at 9 PM you will now stop whatever you are doing even if you didn't wrap it up in time, prior to the new dead line [sleep line ?] DROP EVERYTHING like your house is on fire! Grab everyone- all those children- and climb into your biggest bed, chat for a few hours. You mayn't all fall asleep by 11 PM but BONUS! you will wake up feeling better. Keep doing this nightly. Soon you'll find children dropping off to sleep within minutes of lying down.
You just exclaimed "BullSnot!"? I am not lying! IT'S TRUE! You and your kinder too will be dropping off to nana-land soon using this sleep program. With just a bit of time and patience or rather eager hopefulness you can work your way to waking up happier than imagined.
We took about 6 weeks to go from naturally dropping off at 9 PM and waking at 9 AM to dropping off to sleep at 6 PM and waking up happily at 6 AM. That's no alarm clocks. We did this intensively to awaken earlier. It works!
So, you go to bed earlier- you get up earlier. You struggle at it -but how to make it stick?
Morning walks!
It's really cold. We have an indoor mall that opens up at 6 AM for walkers. Now I haven't got an excuse left. What are your excuses? Write them out and see how ridiculous they really are.
We'd take a quick brisk walk around the neighborhood. Seven minutes. No biggie. It was just enough time to get the sleep out of our systems and fresh air into our lungs.
Back to falling asleep...
You don't have to fall asleep right away when you start this bedtime adjustment. Just lay there and veg-out. Or just lay there and hold them down is more like it. Talk your kids to sleep. They'll see you mean business. Just ask them about their day and hug them. They'll love every minute of it but they will struggle and complain at first.
Once you have been using this sleep program for about 6 weeks or so, you will find you and they will be falling asleep real quick like and sleeping hard you can even move them out to their own beds. Just be there for them in the morning for your chat time. You may even find you'll enjoy being up earlier.
At some point I discovered that I had worked my way to the best wake up time for me and when that happened production soared! It was so amazing. I found myself up at 4 AM happily scrubbing the bathroom, getting in some quite time and before too long I started doing a load of laundry and vacuuming. [all the noisy stuff at wake up time] It really helps the little ones to want to get up when there is a dull roar or noisy activities going on in the home.
So implementing this sleep program gets you happily -not grudgingly- awakening at a decent hour. The hour is to be of your choosing. You base that upon the hour you get your corpse to bed the night before- basically.
Your wake up habits are part of your sleep program. It is part of the healing process.
